Pleasantville Lions Club
The Pleasantville Lions Club was chartered in 1931 with a strong emphasis on service to our local community, especially to the visually impaired and the critically ill patients at the Rosary Hill Home. The Pleasantville Lions Club raises money many ways to support the Club’s various charitable activities. The Club contributes to both local worthy causes and people in need worldwide. Membership in the Pleasantville Lions Club is by invitation and is open to men and women who believe that their involvement in the community can make a difference. The Pleasantville Lions meet once each month at a local restaurant to plan their activities. Guest speakers at these meetings include representatives from the various charities and organizations that receive assistance from the Pleasantville Lions. The following are some of our key activities: SEE PROGRAM: We provide volunteers to screen pre-school children for potential eye problems. GUIDING EYES FOR THE BLIND: Funding for the Yorktown Heights Training Center for Guiding Eye Dogs. VACATION CAMP FOR THE BLIND: Funding and other support for the computer lab at the “Visions” camp. EYE GLASSES: Hundreds of used eye glasses are collected during the year and donated to “New Eyes for the Needy.” BOOKS FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED: Funding to expand the large print book and books on tape collections at the Mt. Pleasant Library. RELAY FOR LIFE OF PACE UNIVERSITY: Funding, promotional support and dinner for cancer survivors and their caregivers at Pace's cancer research fundraising event. ROSARY HILL HOME: For more than 65 years, holiday gifts have been donated to the patients of Rosary Hill Home each December. Located in Hawthorne, Rosary Hill is a non-sectarian care facility for the gravely ill. INTERFAITH FOOD PANTRY: Food donations and funding for this worthy organization that serves needy families in the Pleasantville area. HOLIDAY MEALS: Holiday meals are donated to local needy families at Thanksgiving.
