Mount Pleasant Public Library welcomes children who wish to use library services. The library staff will assist them in accessing library services, but cannot provide them with care, protection or supervision. The public library as an institution does not have legal “provision of care” responsibility. Children in need of supervision may not be left unattended at the library
Parents are advised that the opinion of local school and police is that any child in elementary school is not of sufficient maturity to be left alone in a public area. The Library reserves the right to contact the local police department if the staff believes a child has been inappropriately left at the library and the staff is concerned about the health and safety of the child.
All unattended children are subject to the Library Code of Conduct Policy and its consequences.
