Guidelines & Activities

Eligibility
All volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and have a valid Mount Pleasant Library Card. They must also complete an application for the service opportunity they are interested in. Opportunities are listed below. If accepted as a volunteer, participant must sign and have a parent/guardian sign an agreement form.

Volunteer Duties
Volunteering is scheduled in advance only, no drop-in volunteering please. A volunteer may have a range of responsibilities and tasks that he or she will be assigned including: helping with events (advance preparation, set up, breaking down, etc.), shelf reading, drop-in tech help, creating shelf-talkers, and other projects to assist librarians!

Keeping Track of Volunteer Time
A volunteer is responsible for signing in upon arrival at the library, and keeping track of their volunteer hours.

Recognition
Proof of service forms and letters must be requested by the volunteer, to their supervisor, well in advance of the due date. Forms can be completed, letters written, and certificates issued as proof of service if a Volunteer needs one for school/honor society/religious group (This excludes court-mandated community service)

In Case of Emergency, Sickness or Lateness
If a volunteer is expected at the Library and cannot come in, the volunteer must contact the library and speak with a Librarian letting them know that he/she will not be in. (914) 769-0548.

 
Volunteer Opportunities Inside the Library

Homework Help (This program will resume in September)
Teens interested in helping children in grades K-5 with homework and/or reading skills can register to be a volunteer. You will be paired up with a child and will individually schedule sessions with the child's parents. Meetings will take place at the Main Library in Pleasantville or Branch Library in Valhalla after school between the hours of 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm during the school year. You will first be contacted to set up an orientation meeting at the Library.
