Bring your blanket, lawn chairs, family, and friends, and join us as Steel Passion performs on the front lawn of the Main Library – weather permitting. In the case of inclement weather, the band will perform downstairs in the Library. Steel Passion is an all-steel band with a big sound. While the music has an island cadence, the band’s repertoire is global, ranging from calypso and reggae to pop to jazz to classical and liturgical.

Join Dr. Harold Rosenbaum, retired Juilliard professor and celebrated conductor, as he teaches the history of Classical Music from ancient times to the present. Musical demonstrations at the piano will punctuate the discussion and will demonstrate the evolving styles through history.

Join us for our monthly Friday matinee film screenings! Showing today: Modern Times starring Charlie Chalpin (1936; running time 1 hour and 27 minutes). Come in, take a seat, and enjoy. Popcorn included! Films provided by the Kanopy collection.

Come celebrate Jane Austen’s 250th birthday year with an evening of lively discussion about all things Austen! Professor John Bugg of Fordham University will lead a discussion of Austen’s final book, Persuasion, published in 1811. He’ll also share a letter Austen wrote after attending a party in London that will help us explore her priorities and craft as a writer. A must-attend event for Austen fans! Refreshments will be served. We recommend you read or re-read Persuasion!

This virtual program is for families of freshmen through juniors, to help understand the college admissions process. We will discuss current college admissions trends, admissions strategies, the changing test-optional environment, the importance of researching and visiting colleges, a timeline and other action steps that can be taken to make the remainder of the school year productive and less stressful. We will also discuss the importance of community service, how it can provide an opportunity for meaningful experiences, personal growth and a way to showcase a student’s character.

Please join the Village Bookstore and the Mount Pleasant Library as they join forces for an in-person Local Author Book Club! Participants will discuss the book and will later be joined by the author to continue the discussion. This month's selection is The World After Alice by Lauren Aliza Green.
