You may have seen him about the library recently, a tall person with glasses and a big welcoming smile. Eric McCarthy is Mount Pleasant Library’s new director, who started his position on June 2.
He comes to us most recently from Nyack Public Library, where he served as director since 2023. He has over twenty years’ experience working in libraries, starting right here in Westchester as a clerk at the Field Library in Peekskill. Since those early days he has served far and wide in libraries including positions as teen librarian in New York City, electronic resources librarian for The United States Army in Germany, manager of the ILS (the computer infrastructure that runs the catalog and patron records) for the Mid-Hudson Library System, and the manager of print and digital collections for the Greenwich Library in Connecticut.
“I am excited to be here in Mount Pleasant, to get to know the staff and the patrons, to make the library a welcome place for all, and to be a good partner to other community organizations,” Eric says. He is also thrilled to be back in Westchester, where he lives with his wife and family.
So if you see Eric, say hello and introduce yourself. Or mark your calendars for two Meet the Director mornings with refreshments: Friday July 18 from 10am to 12pm at the Branch Library in the Mount Pleasant Community Center, or Saturday July 19 from 10am to 12pm at the Main Library in Pleasantville. Eric is looking forward to meeting you!
